This is one of the three oldest gravestones on Cape Cod all dated 1683. It is unusual to find a very old gravestone with no image in the tympanum and no borders around the inscription area. Typical of early gravestones note the combined letters such as T and E in INTERRED and T and H in THIS. Note the spelling of BETER - it appears as BEER.
The top left photo taken about 1982 is from the Farber Gravestone Collection owned by the American Antiquarian Society. The top right photo was taken in 2000. The next two photos were taken by Les Kramer June 2008. His photos make clear that both the sides and back of the stone are encased in a copper jacket.
