footstone
D. K.

This gravestone was not identified in the surveys of 1905 and 1976. The footstone initials D K and the location next to Elsy Knowles (1812) suggest this is D. Knowles. The left photo shows the headstone with the footstone in the background. The right photo shows the headstone after mortar was applied to the edge of the inscription surface to prevent further delamination.

LOCATION - No. SE 25 on EHS 1976 survey map
MATERIAL - slate
HEADSTONE - 13" W, 25" H. 1" D
FOOTSTONE - 9" W, 10" H, 1" D
CONDITION - Most of headstone face has delaminated.
COMMENTS - Footstone back and edges encased in resin bonded fiberglass applied about 1977. In October 2007 the headstone was cleaned and mortar was applied to the exposed edge of the remining inscription surface. This prevents water penetration which would cause more surface delamination. Footstone cleaned November 2007.
