Elizabeth Atkins 1806

headstone

Sacred to the memory
Of
Mrs ELIZABETH ATKINS
Wife of Mr. Benj. E Atkins
died May 2d 1806 AE 35

An affectionate wife and Tender Parent,
Lo! where this silent marble weeps,
A friend, a wife, a mother sleeps,
A heart, within whose sacred cell,
The peaceful virtues lov'd to dwell.
Affection warm, and faith sincere,
And soft humanity was there.
In agony, in death, resigned,
She felt the wound she left behind.
Her darling issue here below,
Sits mourning on a father's woe.
Whom what awaits while here he strays
Along the lonely vale of days?
A pang to secret sorrow dear
A sign, an unavailing tear,
Till time shall ev'ry grief remove
With life, with memory, and with love.

The gravestone displays an urn and a very long epitaph.
