Augustus H Eldridge 1861

I die for my Country
In New Orleans Sept. 2, 1864
of typhoid fever at Barracks
General Mass. Hospital
26 Mass. Reg. Son of
Amos & Mary Eldridge
AEt. 20 years

Far away from his home where his loved ones dwell
The Soldier sank to ...
Where no mother's tears o'er his pillow fell
No kiss on his brow was pressed
No brother was near to clasp his hand
Nor sister his eyes to close
But far far away in a strange land
He sank to his last repose.
